Design Collective was conceived in 2003 by Adam and Vanessa Griffiths to provide world-beating identity, print and web/multimedia design to the small and medium business and enterprise of Auckland and New Zealand at sensible and manageable cost.
Having both worked previously for start-ups and incubators, we knew that the image/identity (brand) of new business was paramount to it’s success, but so rarely well considered and realised.
We manage this through keeping our internal costs and overheads low and by creating teams on a per project basis. When (for example) a project needs an illustrator, we choose the right one for the job and contract them only for as long as needed. You get the best person for the job, and don’t pay the overheads of us keeping them on full time.
We are proudly family owned and operated.

Against the Grain is the brainchild of Kiki Thompson, and is a UK based company that custom makes antique style furniture. The site is a content managed, data driven, AJAX and PHP site that allows a visitor to fully customise any of the products available from Against the Grain before placing an order.
Design Collective created the brand, a suite of stationery and our most challenging web site to date. The site has been completely custom built to match the business needs and requirements.
We consider the design and identity to be one of Vanessa’s finest pieces of work.

Julie came to us with a logo needing the full service, further identity, web site, stationery and advertising. Her one restriction was “have fun – be creative”.
Vanessa’s most left field design to date, she worked with the two-tone logo to create the Julie Andrewes world, reflecting her personality and charisma.
The website is a WordPress Content Managed System (CMS) tailored for recruitment, allowing Julie to update her Candidates and Positions when she needs to.

Décortech’s Sally Jagger approached Design Collection in a time of expansion, recognising their brand required a rework to complete on a global scale.
Adam and Vanessa worked closely with Sally to create an identity from the ground up, recognising their sustainable, natural approach and reinforcing this with photography of their products in stunning locations.
These photos are a key element of the print work we have done for them including business stationery, documents a folder and packaging items.
A suite of stationery and various printed items followed. Watch this space for the website.

Based on a concepts and a brilliant new brand and identity created by Sanders Design (relevant portfolio page), the Hunza web site is fully content managed using the open source Joomla! platform.
Design Collective managed the site development and build.

The Brightshine site is a great example of teamwork between a design company and its customer. Vanessa created a wonderful design, and Hayley and Adam worked close together to define how the site would work, most importantly the quote tool that allows users to enter all the details needed to estimate the cost of a blind, which is sent to Brightshine to make any necessary adjustments and complete the sale.
The web site and the quote tool have helped Brightshine expand in a big way, a new factory in 2009.
“The website in general but specifically the quote tool has been fantastic in generating leads and sales. The site has allowed Brightshine to service customers all over NZ even though we don’t have a presence out of Auckland. We offer a DIY web service that enables customers to measure for themselves, get a quote and then submit it to Brightshine for manufacturing. The web has become a key channel of distribution for Brightshine and as a result it’s become the biggest agent we have. The conversion rate from the site is extremely high because the leads are so well qualified. We are thrilled with the way Design Collective interpreted our brand and what we do online. The site is central to all our marketing and advertising efforts because it delivers tangible results.
Design Collective applied a logical and collaborative process to our website development. They allowed us to be specialists at what we do and brought their specialism of web knowledge to the party. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them to any business as they have the skills to deliver business changing results through the online channel. We rate their work so highly that we have made them the custodians of our brand and all our marketing collateral is produced by them – signage, brochures, newspaper ads and more.”
– Hayley Thompson, Brightshine Director.
